Trust Kathleen Hanna to call a spade a spade. Whether it was Bikini Kill or Le Tigre, she’s a common denominator that has made some real ground break in punk rock music. Armed with her brand of sass she is known to talk about social implications like feminism and over dependency on technology in her songs. And, her latest project – The Julie Ruin is no stranger is this department as well. Their latest song “I’m Done” is the rarest of gems which talks about internet comments and their acute impacts on our lives  and how The Julie Ruin are totally over the commenting culture!

This was long overdue in my opinion and someone had to say it sooner or later. Though I’m glad it is Kathleen Hanna who yet again holds the baton. She has sparked many a revolutions in the past and has been a huge advocate for feminism, and even if this little social networking evil sounds like a trivial problem it does need to be talked about and addressed. Kathleen just does it with her effortless flair making it look nonchalant but actually hitting it spot on.

The Julie ruin has been in the game for some time now, first hitting the radar in 2010. The band formed by Hanna also features features Kathi Wilcox of Bikini Kill, Kenny Mellman  of Kiki and Herb,  Carmine Covelli,  and Sara Landeau. They recently launched their second album “Hit Reset” and “I’m Done” is the newest video off the same.

The eccentric little video of 3:29 minutes of a crazy montage at the backdrop of a Windows montage and featuring Kathleen Hanna doing the Kathleen Hanna. The video genially opens to the voice over of the opening of Jimmy Kimmel’s Celebrities reading mean tweets – and really, it couldn’t get more befitting than that. Over the course of the video we watch her twisting a few more conventions by singing Karaoke to her own song and shutting out internet hater in her own godly way! More power to you, punk goddess!
