The Holydrug Couple - Noctuary

The Holydrug Couple are a relatively well-known Chilean psychedelic rock/neo-psych band. They have released a variety of albums through the years and one of their most interesting albums is perhaps ''Noctuary''. An album that they released back in 2013. The Holydrug Couple are known for their mellow neo-psychedelia with some fine fuzzy guitars and catchy basslines together with some great mellow neo-psych style vocals.

The first track on this fine album is titled ''Counting Sailboats'' and it packs some really fine catchy neo-psychedelia with a fine bassline and some fuzzy guitars here and there. The second track ''Sailor'' moves on similar paths and packs some mellow meandering psychedelia that quite adequately matches its titled, as this track surely could be a good one for sailing on a calm sunny day. The third track ''Follow Your Way'' also packs some 90s indie rock feel to it alongside the distinct fuzzy and noisy neo-psych of The Holydrug Couple. The fourth track ''Out Of Sight'' is perhaps the heaviest track on this album in its fuzzy psych riffage in parts. Nevertheless it still has the distinct mellow feel that this whole album has from start to finish. ''Red Moon'' on the other hand puts forth a rather interesting half-noise rock influenced, but mellow guitar solo, while tracks like ''Paisley'' and ''It's Dawning'' are also some worthwhile tracks.

All in all ''Noctuary'' is a much mellower album than some of the earlier albums of The Holydrug Couple. In that sense its a long way from the much fuzzier ''Ancient Land EP'', but is nevertheless good in its own neo-psych way. Tracks like ''Counting Sailboats'', ''Sailor'' and ''Red Moon'' are all great and the other tracks are pretty fine too, and the album is definitely worth listening to.
