Clutch - Strange Cousins From the West

Clutch are a well-known stoner rock/stoner metal band from the US. They have released a long list of great and almost legendary albums, but my personal favorite among them would perhaps be ''Strange Cousins From The West''. An album they released back in 2009. The album packs a fine mix of stoner rock, psych rock and stoner metal heavyness that more than often tends to be rather catchy as well, and of course packs the great vocals Clutch are renowned for.

The first track on the album is titled ''Motherless Child'' and it packs some fine stoner rock riffage and catchy vocals. Thus being one of the best tracks on this all round fine album. The second track ''Struck Down'' starts in a same manner, but packs a pretty interesting semi-psych rock ending. The third track ''50,000 Unstoppable Watts'' on the other hand offers some no-nonsense stoner rock/stoner metal riffage from start to finish, only to be followed by the monumental ''Abraham Lincoln''. A track mixing stoner metal and some noise rock elements as well, and one of the best tracks this band has ever made in my book. ''Minotaur'' and ''Witchdoctor'' on the other hand offer some fine stoner riffage once more.

All of these tracks are truly great and this makes it one marvellous stoner rock/metal album in general, with hardly any flaws in sight. This is nothing surprising though, as Clutch albums always tend to pack some really awesome stoner rock. What is great about Clutch is that none of their albums tend to be boring, and that is something quite remarkable within the wide range of rather boring bluesy stoner rock that is available out there. A band definitely worth checking out.
