In the flurry of the post Simon and Garfunkel, Art Garfunkel was looking for some song credit that was big outside of Simon and Garfunkel. He has contended in interviews that this song originally written by Mike Batt was just the hit he needed. Complete with his lead mark tenor vocals and his gorgeous background vocals and a complete orchestration of lush and ringing strings and the poignant lyric about rabbits dying (perhaps symbolizing the life ending moments of a human being), it was a song that rose to number one in every country’s market accept the United States. The singing of this song is a favorite of mine at karaoke. It makes one think about death and where they are going. We all die. We all give up the ghost. Not too many of us think about it. We get caught up in all the throws of life and all the sudden, your life ends. This song in all its orchestral and rock trappings shall make you think often of the time of his or her demise. It does with my life. It was a number one hit in 1979 on his "Fate for Breakfast" album.
