Death Index are an American noise rock/garage rock/punk band who recently came out with a fine full-length self-titled album. The album packs some great heavy noise-rock/garage rock riffage in a tasty hardcore/punk coating, while sometimes putting forth some fine post-punk influences as well. All of the albums' tracks are relatively short, but they all tend to pack some fine and more importantly catchy noise punk riffage.
The first track on this album is called ''Fast Money Kill'' and the title really fits the track, since the track is just under a minute long, and is all about fast hardcore punk riffage. The second track ''Dream Machine'' packs some post-punk influenced garage rock and is one of the best tracks on the album. The track also features a pretty cool slightly Eastern guitar solo. All in all this track is a truly great piece of repetitive noisy garage rock. The third track however goes further and is all about heavy yet memorable and catchy noise rock riffage along with some fine post-punk style vocals. ''Meal'' is definitely the best track this album has to offer. Another great track is ''FUP'' and it pracks some more fine no-nonsense noise rock riffage. The same can essentially be said about tracks ''Little'n'Pretty'' and the somewhat sludgy ''JFK'' as well, while ''Lost Bodies'' packs some eerie dark psychedelic vibes with some repeptitive monotonous drumming.
All in all this album is a pretty fine noise rock/garage rock release that offers a fair bit of variety throughout the album. Apart from some of the under minute long tracks the album is really good. There are clear cut post-punk inflluences coupled with noise and garage rock, while there are also tracks that I would label under dark psychedelia. This album is definitely worth checking out for anyone looking for some heavy noise rock riffage as well as some dark psych.
