The Heavy

After his breakout in 2009, throwback soul singer Mayer Hawthorne is on a national tour with backing band The County, and headed our way.  Mayer’s sound is an authentic brand of neo-soul that proves his Motown background, which is exemplified in his popular debut A Strange Arrangement, which quickly became one of my favorite albums of the last two years.

Though he played almost all of the instruments on the album, Mayer is accompanied on the road by The County, a full backing band that tactfully fleshes out Mayer’s compositions in person. Mayer Hawthorne & The County are joined by The Heavy who will co-headline 9 of the show dates (see tour dates below for details).

One of the songs in particular from A Strange Arrangement, is a gem, and one that I listen to so frequently, I’m afraid to over post my love for it. “Your Lovin Aint Easy” could compete in my eyes for one of my favorite songs to listen of all time.  I hate to put that much pressure on a song, but I swear that song can cure cancer.  It’s just a great throwback song, that will make you get up and dance… pure love there.

Mayer will be here in Boston next Tuesday at the Paradise with his backing band the County, and co headliners the Heavy… which became famous(er) from their commercial success of their song “How you like me now” which you might recognize from car commercials.

This show is going to be fantastic, and I couldn’t recommend it more.
