This band gained my attention with their second full-length album titled Light Up Gold. It was a tasty and perplexing post pank album that captivated the listener with its authentic rawness. Having the status quo of rock ‘n’ roll in mid, Parquet Courts could have used the same formula time after time and everything would be ok. Luckily, they have decided to grow. They are neither pretentious nor desperate. They have changed the producer and incorporated piano, which reflected in their marvelous exhibition.
Great rock ‘n’ roll albums do not come out every day, and Human Performance sounds like it was recorded in 1983, right after the obsessive listening of Marque Moon. It is equally hypnotic and archaic. It is so rare to find such a thrilling rock ‘n’ roll album today. It’s giving me Television and Sonic Youth realness.
The music has the space to breathe here, which is a consequence of a different approach when it comes to writing and recording. Each members have participated in creation of the songs. The final result is just wow.
Since I am obviously left speechless with Human Performance, I am just going to quote few lines from the opening track Already Dead:
Experience the show of sound that is happening around you know
Life in stereo
Allow the instruments into your globe of sound
And when the next part comes along let it be there
Yasssssss, Parquet Courts! Give them a try, I promise you won’t regret it.
