Just like James Bay says, “No you don’t have to wear your best fake smile” in his song “Best Fake Smile”. Obviously, the words are clear and understandable. They are very simple as can be. It definitely screams, “Don’t be fake!” We all probably have a friend, co-worker, or colleague that does exactly what James Bay is talking about. Who knows, some of us may very well have done this time to time. Generally, we never want to be the bringer of negativity. But in some cases, or actually most cases, you should never be fake and especially to yourself. If you don’t like it then no need to hide it.
The English singer, songwriter, and guitarist definitely has a catchy song that speaks the truth. Yes, “catchy” and “truth” always seem to get stuck in your head and that last song syndrome is the final product that combines the two. When I came to listening to his song, “Best Fake Smile”, it pushed me to write about it. Ok, well that’s obvious. But I must say, it wasn’t the first time I discovered his music. This song just had the right edge to get me tappin’ the keys and tell you about it.
I like it when artists go against what is normally practiced in today’s society. I like it when they address it and say exactly how they feel about it. They are simply pointing out how they view it and how we all should or shouldn’t act. Many times, it makes sense and when it’s placed against a catchy tune then we have no choice but to listen to it… over and over and over again. Now, that’s what you call influence and if it’s for the better then so be it.
