Blowin' In The Wind

”Yes, and how many times must a man look up Before he can see the sky? Yes, and how many ears must one man have Before he can hear people cry? Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows That too many people have died? The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind.”

Dylan truly does live up to his legend status, especially with this song. “Blowin’ In the Wind” was a song produced by Bob Dylan in 1962, released in his album “The Freewheeling Bob Dylan”. It stands as one of my personal favorites out of all of his songs. The melody is so simple yet has the ability to grab the listener by the heart strings and start strumming. This is why Dylan is one of my favorite artists, his song consist of his vocals, guitar, and harmonica as one. Some people might feel that this isn’t enough entertainment for a musical artist, especially some of today’s listeners. With all the hip-hop or dubstep tunes going around, when you listen to a Dylan song you might feel a certain emptiness. What you have to realize is that his music wasn’t just a combination of instruments playing in harmony, it was his lyrics.

“The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind, the answer is blowin' in the wind.” What does this chorus mean? Throughout the different verses, Dylan questions when humanity will come to peace. He sings about the poverty, violence, and sorrow that is prevalent in today’s society. In my opinion, I feel like when Dylan sang “blowin’ in the wind” he was trying to say that the answers for these questions are either so blatantly obvious (like the wind in front of us) or they intangible and out of reach for mankind. However way you might interpret this song, one things stands; Dylan is a legend. He wasn’t just another musician, he was a poet, a revolutionary. His songs spoke hope and truth to the people of the world.
