This genre dates back to the early 1950s. Even today, I find myself really liking this music. I actually find myself nowadays listening more to this type of music, along with blues and anything else with a more retro-slash-vintage sound. Rockabilly is one of Rock and Roll’s earliest styles. These were the days that Western musical styles (particularly within the Southern United States) blended with rhythm and blues. The Legendary Shack Shakers is a band that definitely delivers that sound on the modern day stage of music.
When I first heard music like this, of course to me it associates to Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and many more. It was an ingrained likable sound and style from my initial listening of it. It’s obviously the reason why I still love it today. Furthermore, in the 80s, I heard this style through the band called Stray Cats. I especially liked their songs “Stray Cat Strut” and “Rock This Town”. After that, I went back and forth through old albums just being able to listen to that lovable, energetic sound of rockabilly.
Just recently, I was doing my usual internet searches on styling and fashion. Yes, I like to read about various forms of art and creativity. Anyway, I was lead to watch a Youtube video and what caught my attention was the song being played in the background. I turned on an app on my phone that would analyze and identify the song as it played. The app gave me the name of the band---The Legendary Shack Shakers. The song was “Pinetree Boogie”.
“Pinetree Boogie” was released in 2003 on their album Cockadoodledon’t. I know it’s been awhile since that release but they do have a recent album that was released in 2015. That album is entitled The Southern Surreal. I’m just happy to discover and listen to a modern band that plays in rockabilly style. The band has went through different changes in respects to its band members but The Legendary Shack Shakers still proceed to produce awesome music. Their “shack shakin’” music will definitely continue to play on.
I was planning to leave you with their song “Pinetree Boogie” but I think I’ll keep you updated with their most recent song “Mud” off their 2015 album, The Southern Surreal:
