Sonic Death are a Russian garage rock/psychedelic rock band from Saint Petersburg, who have released a number of albums through the years. Lately they came out with a new album titled ''Hate Machine''. Their newest album dwells in stoner rock and even noise rock, while also having some doom influences. Their older albums however are characterized best by keywords such as garage rock and lo-fi indie rock. Garage rock in a mellow lo-fi key is also the genre that best describes ''Gothic Session''. An album that these interesting Russians released back in 2012.
The best songs on this rather interesting album are ''Sejchas'', ''Marcypan'' and ''Ulitsy''. At least these are the song titles outside of their original Cyrillic script realm. These songs all feature some fine lo-fi indie and garage rock atmosphere and are highly addictive, as well as extremely catchy. Even though I have no clue about the meaning of the vocals that are in Russian. The vocals sound great though. In a sense ''Gothic Session'' is an album that is rather different from their latest album ''Hate Machine'', which is a lot heavier in a stoner sense. Their best album though is undoubtedly ''Gothic Session'', which sounds unique and interesting in many ways, and remains one of the most interesting lo-fi garage rock albums that have emerged from Russia in recent years, and perhaps in all time.
All in all this is a really great album that is pretty consistent from start to finish, and perhaps one of the most interesting garage rock albums with Russian vocals. However the songs also flirt with noise rock and psychedelic rock in parts, which makes it a rather genre surpassing album as well. Whatever the case may be, these Russians are worth checking out.
