Lawson asks: show us the money

As a freelancer the topic and overall desire expressed in the song “Money” is awfully familiar. Ah, what we all could do, if we had the money. If only it grew on trees. I think this topic is as universal as talking about the weather, so UK pop/rock band Lawson made a good choice there.

Lawson started about seven years ago and, after becoming the opening act for some of music’s finest, they started to enjoy some chart success since 2012, especially in homeland UK. Just like many bands, they had a different name when they started out, but when lead singer Andy had to undergo brain surgery to save his life, they decided to name the band after the surgeon who had operated on him.

Musically, they will remind you of Maroon 5, with a little bit of blend of One Direction.  Though, the band themselves say Taylor Swift and John Mayer are their main inspirations. I have, however, heard them admit to listening to AC/DC, but that hasn’t made it to their own songs yet.

The video for their upcoming single “Money” was uploaded to YouTube two weeks ago. The song is catchy and, as said before, universal. It’s bound to reach the UK charts again, as it can already count on radio support.

The single itself will be released next month and is leading their sophomore album, due for release in the summer to coincide, probably, with some festival gigs. This is the type of band, that’s very suitable for those lovely summer festivals. They’re in good spirits, fun and seem to be able to entertain any type of crowd.

After the upload of “Money”, Lawson also uploaded their cover of Zayn’s “Pillowtalk’. Another example that their musical influences can be found in many genre. They turned the pop/R&B track into a beautiful pop rock ballad, with Andy showcasing his smooth vocals. They tend to entertain themselves with recording covers anyway ‘cos earlier, they had turned Shawn Mendes’ “Stitches” into a rock ballad too.
