Bruce Springsteen is an icon in rock music, having sold over 120 million records worldwide. Even though he won critics over pretty much from the start, the public took more time to convince. After his initial mainstream success with “Born To Run” in the middle of the 70s, his grand breakthrough came about a decade later with, the iconic, “Born In The USA”.

There’s a legendary story going around about the album. Apparently, Bruce was literally stripped to his last cent, while recording the album. The writing and recording of it had been troubled, but Bruce hung on to his artistic believes, as well as the political believes that he wanted to incorporate into his album. Not all the session musician survived this period with him, so the story goes, and things were really strained for the man himself.

But his story telling of the common man, hit it off with the common man, as well as politicians and everyone else. Even outside of the USA. It made the album “Album Of The Year” according to various respected music magazines and sold over 30 million copies, making Bruce a very wealthy man. Far removing him from the common man he sings about.

He became a musical hero, as well as a hero to the people. There’s a funny thing when it comes to legends. When you research this story, you’ll find that this was actually the case for him when the album “Born To Run” was recorded. He’s even spoken out about that in a recent interview, so it could very well be that all the information got distorted, when the story got passed on from one person to another.

But if the legend is true, then it’s the tale of rags to riches we all love and dream of. A tale worth telling thought publisher Simon & Schuster, who have offered the rocker a $10 million advance to get started on his autobiography, according to reports.

Apparently, the idea of writing a book about his life was already floating in the air for many years, but now it´s definitely happening. The book will be called “Born To Run”. No date has been given for release yet, but it is expected that he will tell all.

In his music Bruce has never shied away from political or difficult topics and has stood up for the underdog many times. It’s easy to assume he won’t have any problem addressing difficult events from his own life in his book.

Bruce will be touring the States until late April, before he’ll probably sit himself down and write the book. Wow, there’s a weird picture to envision.
