For a while, listening to the songs by “The Yardbirds”, I thought that these were the song by “The Doors”. The reason was the following: I’ve got an album of “The Yardbirds” on the compact disk with the collection of the songs by “The Doors”. The album was “Little Games”. I am not a fan of this band but I like the songs of that album very much. I like rock music. Previously (in my sixteen, seventeen and eighteen years) I was listening to metal… also almost nothing like “Pantera” or “Iron maiden”, except the Russian heavy metal band called “Aria” (they did covers in Russian for several songs by “Manowar” and “Iron maiden”, so the style of the other songs by this band was relevant). I liked “Scorpions”, “Queen”, “Guns and Roses”. Later on I discovered some less popular bands. Rock is still my favorite music genre. Also the psychedelic rock is one of my favorite sub genres, so no wonder that I like the songs by “The Yardbirds”. It is quite a common thing that in the early years of the band their songs are not as good as when they are experienced. I suppose the same thing is about “The Yardbirds”. Sure they had great hits before the “Little Games”, but I think that this one album was the best. There’re no doubts that such songs as “Heart full of soul” and “Turn into Earth” are very good. Nevertheless I not really enjoy lots of other songs from the early albums, while I like each song from the “Little games”. It is good old rock as it is. Nowadays lots of rock fans are misanthropic idiots and snobs, while the initial idea of the rock music is peace and love. You can clearly hear that in such a song by “The Yardbirds” as “Little Soldier Boy” for example. My favorite song of this band is “Only the black rose”. It is really psychedelic. It is able to switch some mind lever and make you feel mot the same as the moment before. It is a very romantic song (in the literary sense of this word). I like songs with nice melodies. This one is very melodic.
