The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Here we have a big apple that fell not far from the huge tree; the tree being John Lennon and the apple being Sean Lennon. Actually here we have a team of two apples - the better half of which is Charlotte Kemp Muh, Sean’s gorgeous romantic partner and music collaborator. The band is called “The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger” (or GOASTT), name taken from a short story written by Muhl. The album which I’d like to present to you today is their debut record “Midnight Sun” which was released in April 2014. Although they had recorded and published several singles and non-official records before this album, “Midnight Sun” is considered by themselves to be the first serious release.

Sean and Charlotte started performing and writing songs as a duo in order to spend more time together. They’ve been involved in a romantic relationship since 2004, but decided to make a band in 2008. Both of them are multi-instrumentalists and excellent vocalists. Lennon’s talent is unquestionable and he inherited his father’s creative genes completely. But Charlotte's musical talent is even more admirable, taking in notice that her main profession is fashion, having an extremely successful career as a model. She looks like an angel and she sings like one. And of top of that she plays the bass, among other instruments! (Check the acoustic sessions)

“Midnight Sun” is an album with some really good melodic songs, great witty arrangements and Imaginative production. It sounds retro and modern at the same time and that’s probably why it connects with audiences from different generations. Both of them are credited as songwriters and in an interview for Vanity Fair, Sean compared their musical relationship with the one that John Lennon and Paul McCartney had in The Beatles, stating that “his writing relationship with Kemp is like ‘intellectual tennis’". The record got positive reviews from the critics and a wide media coverage. I strongly recommend it, especially for the neo-psychedelic rock fans. Enjoy!
