Golden Void - Rise to the Out of Reach

Golden Void are a psychedelic rock band from San Francisco, and they have released two good full-length albums by now. Still the best release from them for me remains the Smiling Raven/Rise to the Out of Reach 7''. Golden Void are known for playing some great and highly addictive psychedelic rock/heavy psych with stoner rock and even 70s psych or classic rock feel to it sometimes. Especially in the vocals department.

This particular 7'' packs two almost perfect psychedelic rock tracks with a nice garage rock feel, and a somewhat mellow and melancholic atmosphere and feel. The A side features Rise To The Out Of Reach, which is one fine mellow and somewhat melancholically eerie psych rock track. The vocals are great as well and seem to be something like a mixture of some classic 70s psych rock and modern neo-psych vocals. The guitar sound is also very awesome and sufficiently feedback filled and fuzzy. All in all a really great track. The same can essentially be said about the B side track Smiling Raven, which moves more towards a jam session like psych rock track that blows ones mind. It has a fine noisy psych rock and space rock atmosphere and tends to be transcendant as hell. Something on top of which one could become enlightened and transcend. A brilliant track.

All in all this 7'' is one of the more memorable 7'' releases that I have listened to in a long while, and packs two astonishingly great songs. To sum things up, all of Golden Void's albums are worth listening. But this short release is perhaps their best to date.
