The well-known Dutch instrumental psychedelic rock band Het Droste Effect came out with their latest album in the middle of last year. This album ended up as one of the best psych rock releases of last year for me, and manages to succesfully mix some electronic music influences with some extremely heavy, dirty, fuzzy and outright soaring psych rock.
The first track Syncopiano packs some fuzzy and noise-rock influenced psych heavyness together with some electronic music influences. The second track You Know That I Knew goes even further on the awesomeness scale, as it is a fine fuzz-laden psychedelic rock jam with a catchy addictive kraut rock bassline and equally mesmerizing drumming. An extremely addictive track and one of the best psych rock tracks of 2015 perhaps. The third track Roman Candles comes across as a more ambient interlude track, while Hash It Out goes essentially back to where the second krautish psych rock track left off, but also packs some fine electronic music influences. The fifth track Soar is another great psych rock track with a more space rock feel, and perhaps more experimental in a slight prog sense. The last nearly 10 minute long Sandra Eats The Sunshine puts forward some great melodic and dreamy psych landscapes, along with a dreamy sax solo, only to follow into another psyched out jam with a space and krautrock feel. A highly addictive track again.
Soar is definitely a great album for those who are into repetitive psych and krautrock. Especially tracks like You Know That I Knew and Sandra Eats The Sunshine are sure to blow anyones mind with their transcending psyched out guitars, Fire! like sax and repetitive bass and drums section.
