Hey Colossus - Radio Static High

The London psychedelic/krautrock masters Hey Colossus came out with a new album earlier this year, and this album surely did not disappoint. The album essentially dwells in some fine flowing krauty psychedelia for the most part, while also packing some noise rock and doom infuences here and there. Then again it also moves into ambience at parts. All in all the album packs some interesting movement between genres from start to finish. This of course is an entirely welcome thing, as the album does not get boring at any point.

The most krautrock influenced song on this album might probably be Hop The Railings, which packs some highly catchy repetitive krauty psych. March Of The Headache and Numbed out on the other hand are tracks that pack some noise-rock influenced psychedelic rock. Meanwhile tracks like Hesitation Time, Snapping Undone, Another Head and Honey move on the more conventional stoner and psych paths, while still managing to be fairly interesting and memorable. The Mourning Gong and especially Memories of Wonder on the other hand pack some brilliant melancholic flowing psychedelic rock, with the vocals being thoroughly fitting as well. Memories of Wonder though is so good that it definitely goes in the book as one of my favorite tracks of 2015.

In the end Hey Colossus have again produced a significant and noteworthy album that packs sufficient amount of variation to not get boring, while still being consistent enough to not be too varied. One of the more interesting psych rock releases of this year, with a couple of really great songs.
