When the intro of Kule T’s “Don’t Be Shy” begins, you think he’s making a big statement to break away from his days as an MN8 member. The unusual intro throws you straight into a guitar solo before naturally flowing into a smoother pace. Even though the guitar remains present throughout the song, there’s a clear r&b influence which receives an additional boost by Kule T’s lead and catchy background vocals.
The song is not a far stretch from “Baby, I Surrender” from MN8’s second album, “Freaky”. It makes a great cross over single for those who remember him from this era and the music yet to come, because a minor change is coming.
Two months ago, Kule T already released teasers for “Don’t Be Shy”, but he also shared his upcoming single, “Truly It”, which is expected to be released in the next couple of weeks. The only thing these two songs have in common is the use of the guitar. “Don’t Be Shy” is up-tempo and super catchy. You get into it right away, where “Truly It” is a beautiful ballad to just listen to. “Truly It” breaks the style of pop/r&b influences and blends it with singer-songwriter influences. It’s clear Kule T has been exploring various options, even though he’s only picked up music again in the last few months.
Over the last few years, I’ve already been able to give you updates about members Dee-Tails, who’s become a special effects/creatures actor and KG, who’s been writing and producing. But I’ve only found Kule T on Twitter, last year. He was silently lurking about, but I hardly ever saw him post anything until he started to post little illustrations about his daily life, just a few months ago. I should’ve known something was coming, because pretty soon after, the new music came.
After MN8, he also concentrated on writing and producing music and even played in a band, but after that, he appeared to have been on a similar path to mine; doing some graphic design. He combined it with working as a media technician teaching students to edit films and design. He’s been happy to use all his musical skills and knowledge about the business to help others, like Hussain Manawer, with whom he did a Pearson ‘inspiring teacher’ campaign. He’s also helped singer-songwiter J-Sol, Kiss FM’s Swarzy Macaly and ITV News Tyrone J Francis find their way into successful careers.
