Keyshia's very capable

There’s something about when current day R&B singers take on an old retro soul sound in their ballads. I have always had a major weak for songs like “I’m Going Down” by Mary J Blige and “Giving Him Something He Can Feel” by En Vogue. And now, there’s one more song to add to that list. It’s the song “Incapable” by Keyshia Cole.

It’s one of those emotionally overcharged songs that any singer loves to sing anyway, including myself. It just allows you to get completely lost in the lyrics, drama and everything else. It would be great if all that drama could just restrict itself to song words rather than real life, right?

Keyshia has been through a high profile divorce from former NBA star, Daniel Gibson. It was enough heartbreak to spark a whole album, her seventh, “11:11 Reset”. And it really does appear to be a reset.

It really is one her most personal albums. She’s taken charge over a lot of aspects of this album herself, including the cover picture and her video. Heartbreak always gives you a moment reflect on all of your life and Keyshia has, most definitely, not had an easy ride in hers. Therefore, the album covers slightly more than her divorce and became about processing everything. Altogether, she appears to have come out of it very positive and strong. Good for her and one up to the healing power of music!

The song “Incapable” is about realizing that your love interest has a different perception of love than you do. It’s all too recognizable to me, which makes me connect to the song even more. But “Incapable” also makes me feel a little guilty that I’ve never paid much attention to her. It’s a really strong song and she’s been around in the music scene for a long time.

Keyshia came onto the scene when I had moved on the electronic dance music and I, basically, took a break from R&B music. Let’s just say we kind of missed each other, but I will be paying better attention to her from now on, because I really liked what I heard, including her old stuff. A great find. She's not incapable of impressing.
