Imperfections are perfect, that's what we can learn from Bibi Bourelly and Earl St. Clair in the music video for their duet Perfect. Before unleashing a radiantly decaying white room where both Bourelly and St. Clair are shown singing about all the perfections and imperfections involved with life, they first debuted the song on Late Night With Stephen Colbert.
St. Clair is heard reminiscing throughout the track, while Bourelly joins in the following head over hills for the perfections most would deem unworthy. However, as the song points out "isn't that the point" as we all come to understand, imperfections are worth while.
As far as instrumental big band's go the sound accompanying the duo, was needed in all respect to enhancing the track's powerful chorus. There is no doubt in my mind Bourelly and St. Clair would have had a beautiful looped rendition, however, this slightly stripped down version throws in a soulful mood. There is an almost desperate appeal or pleading to the individual listening, urging all of us to accept the fact that perfect is a state of mind, not a state of being.
Back to the music video for Perfect for a moment, since the simplistic concept is the overall fact of a white room falling a part, why has this not been done before? Where can a duet be sung from the vantage point of these individuals? Offering a new outlook for these rough times where an image based existence is constantly on everyone's mind. St. Clair and Bourelly came up with an excellent rendition and boy, oh boy, we have been waiting for this one.
As a conclusion to this review, Bourelly, and St. Clair also place a modern twist on the lyrical tale depicting imperfections as a perfected way to love.
