Mario seemed so set to get a massive music and movie career. As a cute kid he sang the catchy "Let Me Love You" straight into the global charts. He played notable parts in movies like "Freedom Writers", and really seemed to go on the same path as Ne-Yo, who rose to fame around the same time. But an MTV documentary showed that not all was as good as it looked for him. In the documentary, Mario showed the true struggle of his life. His mother was fighting a drug habit and he was desperately trying to get her to stop. The two continued to have a rocky relationship for many years and Mario's music career has been on a similar path.
There's been talk about a new album for many years, but every time the plans get cancelled. Altogether, there could've been 3 albums since 2011, but they never saw the light of day. So far, only some tracks and some collaborations have been released until earlier this year, when he released a new single.
He also announced another new album this year, which you now might be able to expect in 2017. To lead us into the album, he's finally released a new single, "Let Me Help You".
It's unclear whether the song is aimed at anyone special in Mario's life, but it is an interesting title when you know a little bit about his life story. Now as an independent artist, he has been promising personal music, truly authentic and real, and I guess he delivers that in the lyrics. But musically the song was not really worth the wait.
I'm not really into writing bad reviews, but the quickest description I can give you, is that the song sounds like it could be an Akon track. All that's missing is the over excessive use of Autotune, but in sound and melody, it's Akon.
Even though "Let Me Help You" is a lot more commercial and radio friendly, it’s a far stretch from "I Need More", the song he released in May, which had a hip hop / trap sound. It makes you wonder if the upcoming album will actually come together as one whole production or if it'll be a very mixed collection of songs.
