Letoya is back

Letoya Luckett was introduced to us as one of the four original members of the biggest girl group in history, Destiny’s Child. She left (or was reportedly forced out the group) after she wanted to get her own management representation and has been trying it solo since. Her solo debut was impressive. Her first album reached the top position in the album charts and she seemed set to match the success that other Destiny’s Child members, Beyoncé Knowles and Kelly Rowland, had.  Let me get wise and say that one should never look to the success of others and use that as a means of measuring theirs. Letoya has had one major thing delaying the kind of success like Kelly and Beyoncé. A slight little hickup like a merger between two record labels caused a lot of delays in her music releases, but I’m glad to say that whenever she has released something, it turned out to be worth the wait. And this time is no different.  Letoya has just released her new single “Back 2 Life”. The chorus is borrowed from Soul II Soul’s massive hit “Back To Life”. Maybe you know it, but it’s not like you could actually recognize it clearly though. Letoya has completely reworked it into something entirely new and entirely now. It is in every bit a track with today’s slow, dark, heavy R&B sound. Love it. :)

The rest of the song is completely original and it's a very strong track from start to finish.  Just recently, I blogged about Sevyn Streeter. Whilst her latest single sounds very commercial compared to Sevyn’s usual repertoire, Letoya’s new song sounds like it could be a Sevyn Streeter single. Hope that makes sense. In short, it just means it’s really good.  This year, Letoya was supposed to have released her new album “Until Then”, but we are still awaiting a release even though she’s dropped and hinted at new music along the way. I’m sure the album will see a release next year and I hope it’ll be the last time she will have delays in album releases. With her vocal range, she has all the talent to keep her success going….. if the business would let her.
