There are many songs that talk about fake friends, but none sound as sweet as JoJo's "FAB". Don't let the title mislead you. Fab is not short for fabulous. It's short for Fake Ass B****. And it's this slight deception (or fakeness) that works.
At first glance this song might even sound a little laid back. Only somewhat powering up in the chorus, but this R&B track speaks truth like none other.
I think that anybody can relate, and everybody probably has one or two similar friendship stories they've lived through. This is why this song has become the anthem of the moment for many people. Including JoJo.
Her black and white video is being described by others as "sassy". I think that's only because of her see-through shirt, because I don't see any sassiness in it and you must be missing the message if you do.
After "Fuck Apologies" and "Save My Soul" there's a clear theme among her recent material. Her songs are deeply personal, nowadays. We all waited for JoJo to get a chance to come back and she's using it well.
I was glad to see her album "Mad Love" had made its way to the regular charts, because for a moment I thought her success was going to get limited to a few million views on YouTube, but commercially, I think she deserves to have her moment of success again, too. It's been too much of a fight to get back there not to be.
All in all, JoJo is closing a hell of a year with probably the ultimate compliment right before the year's end. JoJo is one of the female divas to perform at VH1's holiday special this year. Together with Bebe Rexha and Serayah, she’ll be contributing to your festive memories.
In 2017, she'll be hitting the road with her very own tour. As for "FAB": If you prefer an acoustic version, she did a great performance of this track for Perez Hilton, which you can check out here
