I apologize for a short blog, but many things have been said about the events of today already. I don’t know about you, but my timelines on every social media platform have exploded with Trump/Hillary comments. I don’t feel I need to contribute to it myself any more than I already have.
Today, I thought I would wake up to the news of a first female American president. I did think she would win with like 1%, almost tying with “that guy”, but, to my surprise, she got beat heavily by Donald Trump. America has spoken and the world is in shock.
It doesn’t really matter who you speak to, and no matter where they live, there’s this global sense of panic and discontentment. Not just with the outcome of his election, but in general. A lot is happening in the world, which has created so much tension between races, religion and so much more. The old establishment is being questioned, as are our own actions.
Many artists have released songs, recently, to address all the topics and Alicia Keys is one of them. She’s released a lyrics video for her song, “Holy War”, just before the election started.
“Holy War” is part of her last album, “Here”, and makes a good point when it comes to how we are taught to view things. War has become a daily thing we see on TV, while love is hidden away as some sort of sin.
I’m sure her inspiration comes from IS’s “holy” war and the shooting in an Orlando gay club, but I think her song is something to keep in mind on a day like today. If we all change the way we look at others, start looking at the people around us at all, the world will change. Let’s not lose our minds, even though we look like we’ve lost our minds, right now.
