Testing out The Weeknd

Last week, The Weeknd released his new single, "Starboy". If that alone didn't excite you, the fact that it's a collaboration with Daft Punk should've! So, I was pretty chuffed when the artwork for his new work was dropped on social media, quickly followed by the track itself. Yeah! I was very pleased to hear it's not too outrageously experimental. Both parties can get a little far out there, so anything could've happened putting them together. It’s actually got a few references to the 80s, which for Daft Punk means a change from their regular chart successes. Usually they’ve been strongly influence by 70s disco.

Lyrically, you could take this song either way. He could just be proud about his achievements or he could be just be arrogant. Either way, he’s killing off his signature hair style and old self at the beginning of his video. New times are coming.

It's actually pretty pointless to describe the track, really, because the song has exploded on the charts and mostly on social media, so there's no way you could not have heard it by now.  It's been reported by Forbes that The Weeknd has even seen a boost in Twitter followers since the track hit the Internet, by a whopping 40 million followers! Where were they before this release? I can't help but think they aren't exactly real somehow.

But it helped convince The Weeknd to release more new stuff, so in the last couple of days he released a second new track (called “False Alarm”) and, of course, his own fall/winter collection of merchandise… I mean, clothing. I wonder what else is coming, because it is still a long wait ‘til the new album, which is due November 25th. He must have a few more ‘surprises’ up his sleeve.
