Jillian Banks, who goes by her stage name Banks, is a singer and songwriter. In May 2014, she was named by FoxWeekly, the “Artist to Watch”.  Ellie Goulding said in an interview with Radio.com that she often listens to Banks.  It’s pretty obvious that Banks is an artist you should be listening to and watching out for, if you’re not so right now.

Banks' sings in the style of New Wave R&B and her sound is described to be dark R&B.  She has stated that Lauryn Hill and Fiona Apple as being her influences in style and sound.  She says that music helps her with emotional release.  In respect to this, she has kept her music private while she studied in college.  Her early accounts in music are her self-taught skills on the piano.  She did this when she was given a keyboard by a friend to help her through her personal struggle at the time.

In time, she developed and produced her music and sought to share on SoundCloud.  To sum it up, she eventually breached through the barriers and struggles to discovery.  She has toured around the world with The Weeknd.  In 2014, by the BBC she was nominated for Sound of 2014 award and another nomination for MTV Brand New Nominee.  Banks has definitely already reached many achievements in her musical career and released her debut album, Goddess, in September 2014.  Her newest single, “Better”, was released in 2015.

Her song, “Better”, sings with dramatic tones.  Its expression is so deep that you can hear her emotions within her intense vocal tone.  With a bit of rasp, she struggles to let her lover know… something he possibly continues to ignore or just does not realize.  She continues to express to him how she can love him better than “she can”.  The pain and struggle continue as it echoes throughout the song.  You can only sit and listen to what she wishes he would only realize… the simple realization of having something “better”.
