Kaipo Kapua is another definitely talented music artist residing within the beautiful islands of Hawaii. His style brings roots of R&B, Soul, Reggae, and most of all with that Hawaiian style.
I first heard Kaipo Kapua live during a wedding reception. I was so close that the drums were several feet away from me and Kaipo Kapua was also several feet in front of me. I have to say, when I heard him sing, I was amazed at how he sang with so much control, altering between vocal tones, and with so much passion and emotion that you can tell he really loves what he does---perform and share music to his audience. His whole performance truly hyped the crowd and had many people moving to the dance floor. Furthermore, he would become among the few local musical artists that I keep up-to-date on.
Several times, when I wanted to listen to music, I searched online for new music out there. I would search the internet for some of the songs Kaipo Kapua sang. In the past, I found older music videos during the earlier days of his career. Although he had a very different appearance, surprising at first but not in a bad way, his voice proved to surely be the same outstanding and distinctive sound.
Throughout my venture on social media and music, I often heard people speak of him and how awesome a singer he is. Here and there, I would find a new track or cover song he would present. Often times, I even seen him just do a laid back and simple jam session with other great local musical artists. His love for music really shines through in how he performs. It’s like he is telling you a story and feeling the vibes as he tells it.
In a documentary, it was revealed that as a kid, he showed potential skills in various sports. In school, he participated in different athletics and was dubbed a natural. As a young boy, he also expressed his love for music. Being in a family that is very musically oriented, he found himself surrounded by a lot of musical influence. As he grew up, he obviously developed his own personal style. Thus, as he grew so did his talent in singing.
Along his journey in music, one thing is certain and that is his everlasting love for music. He has stated, that “Music is healing.” You can witness this as he speaks and smiles with a welcoming and happy disposition. When he sings, it truly comes from the heart. His main inspiration stems from what he feels and draws in, being surrounded by paradise and the natural beauty found on the Hawaiian Islands.
I’m gonna leave you with a song of his that I’ve often listened to. I like it because it brings back a bit of that ol’ school R&B sound that we all miss. The scene... the “braddahs” just having a good time, laid back, and feeling the vibes of a good ol’ jam session.
