Sometimes you don’t need much music to create a song.
We already know of many a cappella singers that flood YouTube with the distinctive multi-screen videos, and I’m sure you know of a few a cappella classics too (perhaps Shai with “If I Ever Fall in Love” or Billy Joel with “For The Longest Time”?) or need I to remind you of Pentatonix?
But then there is V Bozeman. She’s a familiar face and voice to those who watch the show Empire. With her appearance as Veronica (also her real name) on the show, she’s managed to capture the attention of the show’s fans and create quite a following of her own.
Within a short time, she’s built up quite a reputation as a vocalist, but with great things comes great care. Already signed to Timbaland’s imprint label, Mosley Music, since 2011, it looks like they are planning her official debut carefully.
Her incredible a cappella song “What Is Love?”, which was dropped on the pilot for Empire exactly a year ago, is so powerful, it does not need music nor an elaborate video. All it needed was a little bit of V.
The songs she has shared so far, are mainly a cappella songs with a beat (box?) underneath. Though, her cover songs, including a recently recorded remake of Michel’le’s “Something In My Heart”, are with music.
She’s easily recognizable with her bald head and feel for style, but in an interview with Essence, she’s admitted that it took a while for her to find her way as an artist. Just like many other artists on the road to success, she’s been discouraged many times by pr her to find her way. ie, but in an interview with Essence, sheeople telling her she wasn’t good enough or she didn’t look the part. Something you cannot imagine when you watch her videos on YouTube.
Originally she was supposed to be on the album Timbaland was supposed to drop last year, but as far as I know, the album has never been dropped and Timbaland himself is said to be working on a new mixtape instead. Still, don’t wait on that to discover her.
A debut album of her own seems to be in the works and is planned for a release this year. As she’s already a rising star on YouTube, it looks set that the album will be selling well.
