Nao

As I may said it in my writings before, I am very hard to impress. And even if you don`t care about my taste and experience, I would not let myself lose of this Neo-Soul/electro R`n`B diamond right here. This 26-year-old singer/songwriter from East London has frozen my emotions in time. My first impression was, a female version of Kwabs. Then her latest EP "February 15" has gotten even more under my skin with the downtempo Neo-Soul beats and her soft and tender thin high pitched faded vocal, with deep drop-downed tone to the 90`s and Aaliyah sheet notes, got me completelly compelled.

Nao (pronounced Nayo), as she declares herself, a vocal Jazz graduate, and a Frank Ocean`s and James Blake`s fan, she started singing at the age of 14, and grew up in a big music family. But soon enough she will get herself to this realization while striving to be and get to that very best of the perfect self, that the same "perfect" sense, had no definition at all, and became only something so subjective, that made her desicions besed more towards her own desires and passionate expressions of wondering soul.

And my comparison to Kwabs was on point, as she was sessioning with the very same man as with the other cool names in music industry. And after trying out on her own, it was a full dessert to our senses, releasin not one, but two EPs, the mentiond above "February 15" and couple of months elder "So Good", released in 2014, both undr her own label "Little Tokyo", bringing the unique trail to the new era of muisc. There isn`t a particullar genre where you can put this girl`s art, and I think, judging by her style of pure emotional expressions, she wouln`t wan`t us to. You can feel the urge for wide sprectre of articulation and a desire to cover a vast majority of genres, from electro vibes to Soul, over Jazz infuence via Pop and R`n`B and Neo-Alternative approach.

Striving to her own vision of impeccable art, I like that I can still live to relish in the soulful waves of her Neo imprints, and Aaliyah like beats, keeping the legend alive, but at the same time making her stamp on the paper of this fervent magical tale one soul can produce. Determined to hide her face from us, and her private life as much as she can, is a refrlection of a true artist. A down-to-Earth ordinary girl, but not so much, when her extraterrestrial music comes to question. And I like that very much. You are suppose to listen to an artist and follow and love them for the reason and the level of the impact their music has on you, not so you can know every single piece of their private life.

My attention is grabbed couple of minutes before I would even start the writing on this article, astonished by her latest single "Bad Blood", released about a month ago... I was instantly dried of any borring everyday sequence and brought to life once again, greatly refreshed and Moon bounced to the Nao`s just painted borders. With the irreplaceable talent gems Nao holds in her genes, it`s time to embrace the planet and watch her pulse in the rhythm of this Imperfect Soul`s notation.
