Judge Roughneck are kicking their year off with a great start. With their new video "Mirror in the Bathroom," the group are also embarking on a handful of Colorado dates this Winter, that will definitely warm you up in this cold weather. Making a name for themselves for a number of years, Judge Roughneck are in their prime. Their Ska-infused-Reggae sound creates a sound that is both unique and electrifying, as the band takes their music to new heights. We had the chance to catch up with Judge Roughneck at the start of the New Year, to see what their future has to hold.

Consistently making a name for yourself the past several years in the Colorado area, how have you seen the music scene change?   Byron: Colorado is the fastest growing state in the country and weed is legal here. The scene is bigger and better than ever, and what I have noticed the most is we have a huge influx of people from all over and they are mostly cool and go out and support music and the scene in general.    , in my opinion, is one of your accomplished collections to date. How did the recording and writing of the record come together?Pick You Up   Byron: We did the recording at David Dinsmore's home studio. He produced the CD and I co-produced it. We both wrote songs on the CD. I would bring my ideas in, and he and I mapped them out, then had the band come in play the parts. it was a new way of recording for us, with only a few tunes being recorded with everyone there at the same time. When it comes to writing songs within the band, is it a collaborative effort? Or does everyone come in with their own set of ideas and focus?   Byron: I have been the primary songwriter for the most part. I feel that has also helped us to create "our sound" David has written a few on this record abd he and Brian Handlos collaborated on "Blue Room" But ultimately everyone helps with the arrangements.

Teaming up with Angelo Moore of Fishbone fame for your newest single, "Mirror in the Bathroom," what can you tell us about the collaboration? How did it all come together, and what was the experience like? He and I have a mutual friend (Angie Seegers) in L.A. she introduced us and passed on our arrangement of the song. He really liked it enough to do four part harmonies, and his weird vocal phrasing really works at making it a very unique version of that song. He is a true musical genius and incredible to work with.   You have played across Denver as well as the world with Judge Roughneck. What type of venue do you prefer the most? Larger ones such as Red Rocks, or do you enjoy more of an intimate setting?   Byron: Both are equally fantastic and always magical!   Recently releasing your new video for "Mirror in the Bathroom," what was the filming of the video like, and how did you come up with the concept and film footage? Byron: We were sitting in the Goosetown Tavern discussing where to shoot the Video, and the director (Matt Nasi) said "why don't we shoot it here this place is cool" Matt was great to work with very relaxed. And he, Angelo, and Jon Hegel had the best conceptual ideas for the video.   2017 is already off to a great start for the band, as we see you have a handful of dates already set up for the Winter months. What else does Judge Roughneck have going on this year? Byron: The next Single we drop will be "The Girl" then hope to follow that up with "Tom N"
