Ziggy Marley Streaming it Up
Ziggy Marley's music has been steaming it up by Reggae fans around the world via online platforms.
He recently released his sixth solo studio album, "Ziggy Marley" this past year on May 20th, 2016 through Tuff Gong Worldwide. The album marks his first release in over 2 years. It was recorded in Los Angeles and produced by Ziggy, following the critically acclaimed Fly Rasta, which was awarded the Grammy in 2015 for Best Reggae Album. A digital version of Ziggy Marley is available exclusively on iTunes, with the physical album available on Ziggy's website.
Regarding the popularity of Marley's music, I had the pleasure of interviewing one of Ziggy's devout fans who is also my favorite barista at Cafe Dolcein Connecticut. Luigi Hernandez was gracious to share his passion for his favorite genre of music...Reggae, and his favorite artist.... Ziggy Marley of course! Luigi listens by streaming Ziggy's music online via the online platform known as Google Play. Luigi informed me that his favorite song is Beach on Hawaii, which is a single off of the Love is My Religion Album. The lyrics are simple, haunting, and beautiful, with Marley's signature jamaican groove. There is speculation to the meaning of the song that it actually laments about Ziggy missing his late father, and wishing his father were still here to walk on the beach with him. Thank you to Luigi Hernandez for sharing the link to this song via online platforms including Youtube and Google Play.
Lyrics:
On the Beach in Hawaii
I wish you were here with me,
Walking on the beach in Hawaii
Playing on the golden sand
Looking at the ocean now I understand
Love is like the open sea
and I wish you were here with me
On the beach in hawaii
Alittle pakalolo and I say mahalo
Ujjayi breathing to ger a real feeling
A Bit of Marley family history : "what's in a name"?
Ziggy Marley, like his father Bob Marley, continues to hold a strong and iconic presence within the world of reggae, leading his band, The Melody Makers.
He was born David Marley in Jamaica on October 17, in 1968 but nicknamed by his father as Ziggy literally meaning.... "Little Spliff". Ziggy states in an interview with Melody Maker Magazine in 1988;
"Me name David, but me big Bowie fan. So at the time of the Ziggy Stardust album, me call meself Ziggy and now everybody do."
The Melody Makers, were a band that was made up of his siblings. The band was actually named after the British weekly pop/rock music newspaper. Ziggy began performing alongside the Wailers after his father passed away.
Stepping into his father's iconic spotlight and fame, Ziggy's fan base. much like his father's is extraordinary. This multiple Grammy award winning reggae legend also taps into a creative entrepreneurial spirit, revealing a saavy flair for marketing the Marley family legacy with interesting product lines from music, emojis, cookbooks and vapes!
As his website states: "Ziggy continues to diversify his creative outlets. Along with publishing a cookbook of personal and family culinary favorites, Marely will be releasing the world's first line of reggae-themed emojis in a partnership with the Emojifame company.
We wish Ziggy much success as he continues to diversify with interesting and cleverly creative outlets. Looking forward to personally downloading his reggae-themed emojis!
