The story of Robert Nesta Bob Marley
I believe that the most inspiring life-changing masterpieces have either been created by great minds or have been inspired by hardship and misery. People are pushed to search for a solution in situations where they are forced to face hard life (poverty, lack of primary resources) and climb giant mountains. They are striving for a change in the world, to overcome the greatest fears in life. Those people who succeed are Leaders who are not afraid to try, people who believe that they can change the world. They believe in themselves but also they believe in the World. Among these people, an honorable place deserves the King of Reggae, Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley.
The career of Marley started in Kingston, Jamaica in the early 60s. As a child because of his father (who was a British white man), the neighbors nicknamed Marley the “White Boy”. On this he replied:- I’m not on the white man’s side, or the black man’s side. I’m on God’s side.”
Since the very beginning he became popular in his Country. In his early career, the songs he recorded were with faster tempo (because of the influence of the Ska music that time) and not the best quality (that time in Jamaica there weren’t any expensive and famous production houses or studios just local producers and studios). From the start of his career his lyrics are deep and thoughtful, delivering a message to the people, especially to the people in Jamaica. He encourages them to keep fighting for their rights, and he speaks openly for the problems even proposing solutions. Bob Marley's thoughts and messages are all around us, but sometimes we may not be conscious about them. As he was growing up he slowed down the tempo in his songs and kept that upbeat with the same thematic lyrics (that is how we got Reggae music).
Marley’s first official success is the first single released with The Wailing Wailers (later on called The Wailers) “Simmer down” becoming a Jamaican #1 with over 70,000 copies sold. Since then he ended with more than 20 million records sold throughout his career and more than 75 million albums worldwide after his death, becoming an international superstar.A lot of people who attended Bob Marley’s concerts say that it was a spiritual experience. He wasn’t just a singer or a musician to the people that followed him, he was their leader and their hero. A pure source of inspiration radiating will for living and enjoying life.
Bob is a perfect example of how people should not change because of money. From the day he is born to the very end he spread messages to the people and kept his pure spirit and honest character of a true leader that loves life. When Bob was asked the question:“Are you a rich man (meant on possession and money)?”He answered:“Possession make you rich? I don’t have that type of riches. My riches is life, forever!”*For a nice end of this article here are some interesting facts about Bob Marley:
-He didn’t cut his hair since becoming a Rastafari proponent because Rastafari Belief is that no razor shall come upon their heads and shall let the locks of the hair of their heads grow; -Football played a big role in Bob Marley's life. Once he said “If you want to get to know me, you will have to play football against me and the Wailers.”;- Unofficially Bob smoked about a pound of marijuana per week. For Rastas Marihuana is a sacred herb.
