Bob Marley: His Legacy Remains In The World

Bob Marley- an individual who is passionate in music, a brave man of his own beliefs and a faithful citizen of his own country.

"What makes a man a "man" is when he holds on to his dream, make it a reality and serve people with all his might to influence them with what he thinks is good."

Born on February 6, 1945 in St. Ann Parish, Jamaica, he was a person of determination to chase his dream. Having been raised by his parents in "Trench Town," known for being one of the poorest in the neighborhoods, he encountered a lot of hardships to the point of almost giving up.

Possessing the strong-minded nature, he was luckily discovered by Leslie Kong and released a few singles. Nevertheless, his songs didn't really have an impact to the Jamaican people. Thinking it would be better, he formed a group together with his friends- Livingston and McIntosh and soon JUnior Braithwaite, Beverly Kelso, and Cherry Smith.

SInging is the thing he really wants to do. Therefore, he decided not to quit doing what he loves. It was until 1972 that their group, Wailing Wailers obtained popularity and fame with "Catch a Fire." As the band received a lot of praises and support, they were able to expand their audience to the U.S., U.K., and worldwide.

Despite their achievements, some of the members felt the need to leave the group. This didn't stop Marley as he remained as a solo artist in the music industry after their disbandment. Even without the group's company, he still managed to stay at the top and even sold more than 20 million records.

With his success as a soloist, he faced an alarming situation when a group of gunmen attempted to kill him. His wife Rita was also targeted by them and his manager Don Taylor was not severely critical. It was because of him supporting the PNP, hence the rivals of the party needed to assasinate him.

However, it is not due to the killings but an issue in his health that he died. He was diagnosed to have cancerous cells in his body. Staying loyal to what he believes, he fefused to have treatments. When he was on his way to his home country, Jamaica, he died in Florida on Ma 11, 1981.

Throughout his life, Bob Marley demonstrated a great character for all of the people in his time. It is his love for music and singing that he had done several good things not only for his country but for the whole world. He set an example as a genuine person who would want to offer his life for what he strongly believes.
