Fanfickk is quickly becoming one of our musical obsessions. The electro-pop songstress takes us on a magical musical journey that definitely has our hearts beating a little bit faster. Her equally as vibrant video for "Cotton Candy" has us in awe of the creative, as she brings her music and vision to life. We recently had a chance to catch up with Fanfickk for an exclusive interview below which fills our hearts and ears with joy.
1. What is the inspiration behind the latest single release and video? Let's dive in shall we?
The song was inspired by a guy with really amazing pink hair and a big toothy smile. The video was made by French animator Megaceros, and the "birds with hands" concept was her idea. Originally, the birds were all going to have amazing hairstyles too, but I think it became too time-consuming to animate. Having good hair is such a burden.
2.What made you discover your passion for creating an eclectic blend of your own sound?
I think I just liked messing with music software. I used to enter remix competitions, which eventually led to me making my own beats. I never wanted to sing though, so that came much later out of necessity!
3. What places in your mind do you channel to craft your songs?Places where people wear very tight jeans and have good hair, aka not my reality.
4. What are your favorite venues to perform at? and if you had to choose, do you feel more comfortable in the studio or onstage, and why?
I haven't performed live yet, so it's safe to say that I'm more comfortable in the studio. And when I say "studio", I mean my bedroom closet. I'd really love to do a live show though, or even a livestream from my living room and/or closet with my cat Dumpling on backing vocals and hopefully at least 10 online viewers.
5. How do you create your songs? What is the process like? Does it take you days, weeks, even longer? How does the perfect piece come together?
I usually make an instrumental first, and then write the lyrics and melody on top of that. "Cotton Candy" came together the fastest - I produced, wrote and recorded it in under 24 hours. The song "Shreds" took 6 weeks. It's really hard to finish stuff once that original feeling goes away, which is probably why I have 40+ unfinished songs...'
6. How did you create a sound throughout time that is so uniquely your own? What defines your sound to you?
I'd say my sound is just an amalgam of all the different types of music I love rather than a conscious decision to sound a certain way. I'm equally happy with comparisons to NIN or Kyary Pamyu Pamyu because I like both of them.
7. This year is already shaping up to be a huge year for you. What do you hope to accomplish in 2018?
Musically, just finish more songs. Personally, maybe introduce more tonal orange to my wardrobe and stop wearing my pajamas outside.
