My days usually start out with my local radio station blasting on my stereo. I always hope to catch some news, the weather and the traffic situation. You know, the usual. But every once in a while I’ll pick up on some forgotten classics or something new and sweet, like Vinchenzo.
Vinchenzo walked the path of any 18 year old wannabe pop star. He auditioned for The Voice Kids and got in, and then, this year, auditioned for The Voice of Holland for adults. He came in third place. It got him signed to one of the judges labels and a first single got released. Of course, I missed all of this. I’m one of the few people who doesn’t have the patience to watch The Voice.
So, I got surprised hearing this sweet little song on the radio in the early hours of the a.m. It’s his second single, “Daily”. It is a bit weak in the lyrics of the chorus, and there is a heavy Dutch accent coming through here and there, but it’s forgiven due to the catchiness of the melody. The singalong song reminds you of a lazy summer day, which is always a benefit.
The song is clearly targeted towards young hearts, but his deep voice reminds me more of artists like George Ezra, who has an appeal across the generations. It’s clearly not on the mind of this young artist yet to milk that dry, but perhaps he’ll do so down the line.
While “Daily” is laid back, his first single was a house track that could fill the dance floors. Vinchenzo has also been able to show his capability in a versatile repertoire while being on the talent shows.
He still needs to develop his talent further, but I think he could be that pop star he wants to be.
