A cheerful day

Ok, I have to admit that I think I’m rekindling my fanship for Take That. They’ve just released a new single called “New Day”, with a bit of a weird video, and I like it. I’m not too sure about the video though. I’m still trying to piece together what the story of it could be.

I know I blogged about them before and already stated that I had lost my connection with the group pretty much after they quit in the 90s, somewhere, but they have been able to surprise me with their new material several times. But now I think they got me hooked.

Perhaps it’s the bit of reminiscing with James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke that pushed me over and realizing that I should start playing some of their music again. Not all of their old material will still strike a chord with me, but the new stuff will probably suit me so much better.

Seeing the guys being interviewed in that relaxed setting definitely reminded me of the old days. One thing I always liked about them is the fact that they were such good sports and just seemed to enjoy themselves. They looked so incredibly down to earth and easy going. That clearly hadn’t changed.

“New Day” is nothing like the old material from when I was a fan, but I think it’s kind of cool how they’ve created their own sound along the way. It’s a combination of some 70s inspiration with some of today’s trends.

I don’t know if I’m the only one experiencing it with this song, but it reminds me so much of that Coca Cola Christmas song, “Shake Up Christmas” by Train and also by Natasha Bedingfield. Especially when they first begin to sing the chorus, I kind of expect them to burst into this song’s chorus. Perhaps  I’m giving the company an idea for their next advert, haha.

The song is cheerful and positive. You sing along it with immediately and it sticks real heavily too, much more than I’ve experienced with some of their other songs, like “Giant”. It wouldn’t surprise me if this song is going to do well.

Take That will be performing at the One Love Manchester / Ariana Grande benefit concert this Sunday and it looks like Robbie Williams will be joining the group on stage. As real Manchester lads, this would make such perfect sense. Apparently, the group is also planning a few surprises for the concert. Can’t wait J
