What love sounds like

I have plans to release more lyrics videos on my YouTube channel this year. It’s a great way to put the spotlight on songs I’ve helped to write for others, and it’s a great way to share those tracks too. This week, I’ve been looking for inspiration and stumbled upon a new release by Art House, which features Natasha Bedingfield.

The Art House was founded by music producer Julio Reyes Copello, who’s had a hand in writing various tracks for mainly the biggest names in Latin music like Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, Ill Divo, Jennifer Lopez and many more. He founded his own studio, The Art House, in 2013 with the intent to create music productions with art creation at its core. It means he wants to create music without limitations of genre or language. A true artistic expression.

His own record label only houses a few artists, so far, and do collaborations as one-off projects like the one with Natasha. With his intend in mind, I expected the lyric video to be a lot like a massive art creation, and they definitely have tried. The handwritten and hand drawn lyric video must have taken ages to create and it fits the concept, but it’s not as impressive as I expected.

Luckily, the song is. It’s a combination between what we hear in dance music today and the pop-R&B power ballads. I particularly like the moment where the chorus ends and the second verse starts. She doesn’t fully repeat the melody from the first verse, which I think gives it an interesting twist, but the main thing that stands out is Natasha’s powerful voice.

The emotions of the lyrics of “What Love Looks Like” are perfectly expressed in her vocals. She switches from powerful to fragile in a heartbeat, which shows great control over her vocals. I always considered her to be a good singer, but this song has really showcased this.

The song is not an experimental track that has lost touch with a commercial opportunity. It’s catchy and predictable, but all in moderation (in other words, it's not too catchy and too predictable. It's got a good balance). I’m disappointed I originally was like the 23rd viewer of the video, but I saw it had increased to over 7000 views at the time of writing this . It looks promising. Why don’t you go and see what love looks like.
