She's the favorite of the underground, friends with many other artists and creatives, and she's a proud supporter of the underdog. Who? Betty Who!
Betty first draw attention to her music with her debut single, "Somebody Loves You", in 2012 and looked set to be massive, but despite being featured on many blogs - and a few interesting collaborations to increase her exposure - things still look to move a little slower than initially expected for her.
Her last album was released 3 years ago, but a new album is due for release in March, this year. To lead us into the new album, she's released an audio for "Some Kind Of Wonderful". I was triggered by the title, thinking that I remember an old song with that title that would not lend itself to any alterations to sound contemporary. That triggered enough curiosity to see if it was anything like that. It's not.
The original Betty Who song actually reminds me a lot of a short lived trend of pop music with screaming vocals. Most recently, Icona Pop revived it slightly with "I Love It". It's half sung, half shouted, but it is catchy. I have to agree with some of the feedback that I've seen her fans give it on YouTube. It's not the most original and best work that she's delivered.
Betty has a sensitive side, which you could hear on "Human Touch" and her Donna Lewis cover, "I Love You Always Forever". Then, she also has very strong vocals, like on her debut "Somebody Loves You" and on the newly released "Some Kind Of Wonderful". I think it just depends which side of Betty Who you like best.
Her colorful look and cheeky pictures should make her stand out, but it's just that everybody is looking like an artist nowadays. I do like the fact that she has a very strong image. She's kind of a mild version of P!NK meets Lilly Allen.
The new album will be called "The Valley" and is due for release on March 24th, this year and it will feature the Donna Lewis song, "Human Nature" and of course "Some Kind Of Wonderful". More tracks have not been announced yet, nor is the album available for pre-order yet, so we'll have to wait til then to see what kind of wonderful stuff it will bring.
