The no more hurt anthem

I've often said that the best of music is lying on the shelf somewhere. What we get to hear is only a portion of what's out there. The story of Samantha Jade backs this idea up.

Her music career could've been one of those stories never told. She was discovered very young. Moved from Australia to LA to pursue her music and things just didn't want to work out. Despite having been signed to a major, recording with Wyclef Jean and writing hits for others, she still end up back home working for her dad.

I would've never heard of her, if she hadn't auditioned for the Australian X-Factor which then led to her playing the part of Kylie Minogue in a movie about INXS. And I'm a Kylie fan, so in the world of Kylie fans we couldn't wait to fault her, but she was really good at it. And later, she released a couple of songs that even sounded a bit like Kylie songs, so she managed to captivate us for a while.

X Factor led to bigger successes in Australia and her latest single, a duet with other X Factor winner Cyrus, has got all the hit potential any pop song should have. The song is called "Hurt Anymore". Officially, it was release early November, but it took a while for the video to get suggested to me on YouTube and, let's face it, I never would think of searching on her name on there.

Yes, I have to admit, "Hurt Anymore" is slightly predictable and has a little bit too much repetition in its lyrics, but it's incredible easy to catch on to because of it.

If you love singing like me, then this song gives you the 'ok' to go all out. It's a power ballad like any other that's been released in the span of the year, but the vocal performance of both Cyrus and Samantha is amazing (just check out some of the high notes at the end). It's just one of those songs you can get lost in when no one is watching you.

The video is simple, but effective. It has a few graphics here and there to give it a little bit of an artistic feel, but it's mainly focusing on the two singers describing the end of a relationship. I hope it will open new doors for Samantha.
