One to watch: M'Lissa

There are many artists who only had one hit with a Christmas song. In some cases, the song is more famous than the person who sang it, but this year, it looks like one Christmas song might mean the definite breakthrough for a young Dutch singer.

Her name is M'lissa and she's been trying to breakthrough for many years. Having music embedded in her genes, it was bound she was would pursue a career in music. At age 11, she debuted nationally when she appeared in the junior version of the Eurovision Song Contest of 2008. She's been releasing her own music ever since.

This week, her song caught my eye, or rather ear. She was doing an interview for a radio show, which was turned on a few radios away from my desk. Come to think of it, it was quite an achievement for anyone to catch my ear. There were three radios playing different stations at the office. But her song reigned through somehow.

It's called "I Wish Everyday Was Christmas" and yes, it is in all aspects a typical Christmas song. The thing that makes it stand out is the quality of the singing and the melody she's singing in the chorus. It's that, that makes this song surprisingly good.

The video shows her celebrating Christmas with her family and it's really cool to see the steps of a place in Amsterdam filmed as if it were the steps to a beautiful old brownstone in Brooklyn.

Of course, I did a little more research and found out she's a vlogger on YouTube, has built her own team around her to manage her, and she's also released a dance-pop cover of Shalamar's "I Can Make You Feel Good" just two weeks ago:

Definitely one to watch.
