Paulo Franco has definitely proven to be one of the most standout acts of 2016. Recently releasing his new album, The Last Card, independently, we hear a singer and songwriter who goes above and beyond to create a record that is a spiritual experience. On thealbum we discover Franco as an artist and songwriter. His musicianship goes miles as he brings in an all-star cast into the record to create a sound that is equal parts driven, smooth, ambitious and sonically alluring. The key single from the record, "Leaving the River City," opens up a whole new world for Franco. As it shares his knack and songwriting potential, we hear an artist that is taking a step forward on his own terms.
Franco shared with us about the record "The inspiration for the record was a culmination of several forces. A backlog of new tunes, a desire to record, a trio of Spanish songs, and the availability of producer Bob Rupe. The title track is a song I wrote to help me deal with the unexpected death of my best friend at the end of 2014.The time was right and I was fortunate to have so many things come together to make a record of which I am extremely proud."
As the song takes us on peaks and valleys in tone, we experience Paulo not only creating a Southern-Rock Americana sound but also paying homage to his Spanish-heritage while penning songs in his native tongue. There is literally no ground untouched on the record, which makes Paulo Franco and The Last Card, one that will keep you interested, time and time again.
