The world is talking about Adele again. After finishing up the US leg of her current world tour, she announced that she is going to have another baby. Rumors about a pregnancy followed, along with worries about the next leg of her tour in 2017.
Before Adele shared these plans with her audience, she had already let it slip that she might be planning another hiatus after her tour. A break of 10 years to be exact. Didn't I already predict this?
I would applaud it if this is really the plan for her. Sure, I could take the marketing approach to this and blog all about her creating a certain type of scarcity. Very smartly raising her market value even further and all that talk, but I would applaud her for a more personal reason.
How many of us aren't dreaming of being able to live "the life"? I recently bought a lottery ticket with hopes of winning. Just the idea of not having to work, but that I could fill my days with travelling and exploring other things in life. That just sounds amazing. I'm sure you can relate.
However, when I think of people who must be able to afford this by now (say a Beyoncé or Drake), they keep working. Usually they keep working at a harder pace than before, too. I guess it's true when they say that it's harder staying at the top, than it is getting there. But it's interesting to see that all of us want to "make it" (whatever that means) with the thought that we could do things differently, but apparently when / if we do, we don't really change anything.
Adele might. She sounds like she's planning to enjoy the fruits of her labor and balance life out by working a little and then taking time out to live a little. Good for her. And good for us. It's refreshing to have a role model out there, that shows success is about more than numbers. Success is personally determined. And it's great to have the focus more on success meaning that you are a well balanced person. (and I say this from the perspective of being surrounded by lots of overworked friends)
With all that said though, I really want her to do another album. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with and hope she's able to deliver the way that she did with '25'.
