DNA's Powerful Hold

Many know Lia Marie Johnson as a YouTube personality, oddly enough being ingrained into the YouTube circle has never been any concern of mine. So discovering that Lia Marie Johnson actually was singed to Capitol Records and released a music video for 'DNA'. The latest track depicting how DNA can have an effect on growing circumstances. For instance Johnson's music video shows a mother in a volatile relationship as her daughter sits on a bed listening to the fighting. Years go by where we see the daughter has turned into a young adult, showing (just the same with her mother) involved in a similar relationship. Powerful imagery engrosses anyone watching, showcasing how repetitive problems can influence children. Johnson sincerely sings from a personal standpoint. Whether Johnson experienced these actions as a child or not, somehow Johnson comes across as real, true and relentless in 'DNA'.

As haunting as 'DNA' comes off, Johnson adds no pressure only clarity to the songwriting process. Once Johnson starts singing, the lyrics rolls off in waves crashing against the listener. Instructing anyone listening to never give in to the primordial function to reenact what we have seen as children.  Words such as powerful, haunting, eerie or even hard to stomach are present while 'DNA' continues to play on. What the music video shows is that alcoholism could have very well played a part towards the descent which involves lashing out and violence.

More songs should carry a message (not all songs have to be a PSA announcement) helping others to understand that not only are they not alone but everyone is going through their own battle. Whether 'DNA' hits home more forcefully than it should or if the song represents a close friend going through trouble. Johnson shows courage momentum by not stepping away from an uncanny situation. Instead Johnson decides to dive in head first to expose what is happening or what the reason could be. 'DNA' opens wounds, doors and questions we should never fear.
