Super easy to get into

At the beginning of this year, I blogged about Bonnie McKee’s inner wild child when she released the track “Wasted Youth” with a party hardy video. Well, a lot can change in a year. She’s just released her new video “Easy”. It’s her fourth single release this year, but this one definitely shows something new. Everything you might know her for has disappeared.

There are no strange colors in her hair, there are no bright colors on her lips and I don’t think I’ve ever seen her wear so little eye make-up. In fact, toned down like this, she almost looks like the girl next door. So, what has remained? Well, she’s still working the poses or her body (depending how you look at it) and her 80s pop sound is still very present.

I’m really feeling this song. Perhaps it’s just that I’ve spent the last couple of days talking to friends about how complicated life has become and I, too, would like some things just to become “Easy” for a moment. No fuzz, no problems… *deep sigh*. However, Bonnie is just sticking to the subject of some easy lovin’.

“Easy” is the last song to be taken from her “Bombastic” EP, which has filled up this whole year for Bonnie. While the EP is pushing her further in the limelight (and I’m sure a full album will follow), I think “Easy” might open doors to a new era altogether.

As I’ve indicated in my last blog, Bonnie still has a lot of youth in her. She brings a little tongue and cheek, a little bit of extravaganza and a lot of color into her music and especially into her videos. This is Bonnie McKee. You’d almost expect it, like you expect Lady Gaga to be a little gaga.

However, things like that can be a little distracting, too, and it does take away from what lies beneath all that make-up and fun-like exterior: Her incredible musical talent. Bonnie is a very skilled songwriter and some of her vocal skills might go completely unnoticed this way. And I’m very glad she reminds of all of it with “Easy”.

I like seeing a little bit of maturity and hearing it in the lyrics too. No wonder the views of the video are going up by 1000 every time I click on replay. I’m certainly not alone when it comes to liking this video. It’s easy to get into.
