Natasha Bedingfield is the pop prom girl

Some pop songs become classics due to sales or large amount of plays, but other songs become classics on the Night of the Proms. The Proms puts together pop stars with a big classically trained orchestra and brings pop classics back to their very cores. Stripped and without technique to hide behind, it is truly an honor for many artists to be given such an opportunity to perform at the Proms. It's, therefore, usually reserved for big stars with a long track record like Gloria Estefan or UB40.

The first names have just been announced for this year’s prestigious Night of the Proms and Chaka Khan is definitely in the league expected. However, the line-up also shows a lot of surprises. For instance, Tom Chaplin is scheduled to perform. He just released his new album, “The Wave”, and this is a great way to get it out there as well as prove his worth without Keane.

Another surprise is Natasha Bedingfield. It’s been a while since I heard that name drop. Her hits “These Words” and “Unwritten” still get played by me very often, but the last thing I remember hearing from her was “Shake Up Christmas”, which was used for a Coca Cola commercial in 2011.

When she first broke through, I thought she would be an absolutely massive pop star. She was stylish and had a style of her own in lyrics, music and clothes, but somehow it didn’t happen for her.

Even though her latest album stems from 2008, she has been performing and apparently, some new music did pop up from her, mainly through collaborations. I had to find all of this out through a Google search though.

I found that she’s recorded a song for a Disney movie, released a charity single called “Hope” in 2015 she released a charity single called “Hope”, but the most surprising song has been a collaboration  with Belgian dance producer Basto for a song called “Unicorn”, which was released this year and shows her as a regular Eva Simons in the video.

This dance track really shows how flexible she can move from genre to genre and incorporate many influences. I’m quite curious to hear her classical influenced versions of the previously mentioned hits, “Unwritten” and “These Words”,  as well as “I Bruise Easily” and “Single”. Luckily, you can somewhat preview some of it, as she does have some unplugged (aka “Less Is More”) versions of her hits on her Vevo channel.
