The Platinum Guy

Time really has flown by when you see an artist release his first greatest hits collection, but you feel like he's just started out. However, fact is, that Jason Derulo's first single stems from 2009 and his success hasn't really slowed down. That's 7 years of music, ranging from R&B, dance and some hip hop. That provides enough material to use for a "Platinum Hits" album; his first collection of greatest hits.

For about half of his run, so far, he trademarked his music with the signature name drop, but halfway through, Jason realized it wasn't necessary anymore.

Having made a name for himself, he thought he could afford to take some risks, so this year, he stripped down naked to show off his work in the gym for his video "Naked". It's the only song, I've heard of him so far, that had a little more edge to it. It's also the only song that didn't end up charting at all.

All of his other work, is catchy and find their way to the charts easily. You could say that Jason Derulo stands for a wide vocal range, energy and autotune. He also falls victim to this when he sings live though, because his live vocals clearly take a back seat to dance moves during performances, but that aside, this album is a great collection and features all the singles that have reached platinum status: "Want To Want Me", "Trumpets", "Whatcha Say" and "Talk Dirty". Altogether, 11 of his singles have reached platinum status. Altogether, Jason has sold over 50 million records worldwide.

But "Platinum Hits" also introduces one new song, which has just been released as a new single. It's called "Kiss The Sky". The song is super funky and showcases, once more, the falsetto vocals he's known for. Alongside, the song can't help remind you of Timbaland's production work with all the "Whoos" in the back. Although, Pharrell Williams also had a knack for that for a while.

"Kiss The Sky" features in the animated movie "Storks" and is ready to give Justin Timberlake's "Can't Stop The Feeling" (and the attached "Trolls" animated movie) a run for their money. But, it does look like they he may have predicted it well. This could be another platinum single.
