We last featured indie folkie Theo Bard back in August with his track ‘Never Alone‘, the lead offering from his latest EP ‘You Give’. Theo is a staple of the East London music scene, organising the regular Woodburner events, while he has also been lucky enough to play shows and festivals around the UK and Europe. Now he’s released a brand new track titled ‘Memories of Dublin’ on December 18, with his debut full-length album to follow this year.
‘Memories of Dublin’ is a sweet little Irish-inspired folk song punctuated by sounds of seagulls and the moving tide. Picked acoustic guitar lays the bed for Theo’s clear and personable, conversational vocals, while pretty female harmonies and fabulous strings build the track up into something far bigger. It features a charming lyric about a love affair that was short and sweet, set in Dublin to a poetic and descriptive tale. At the end of the song, instead of being sad that the love is over, Theo chooses to feel happy that it happened – it had its beautiful moment in the sun.
The song is a clever play on the Irish folk song Dublin City in the Rare Old Time, with references to the lyrics throughout. Theo also produced the track himself (it was mixed by Adrian Hall) with a host of talented musicians on board: Max Baillie (recently featured on BBC1 Proms Extra) on strings, Brooke Sharkey on backing vocals, and Tansay Omar (Bjork, Boy George) on drums.
