We are so stupid

I really don’t like to talk negatively about anyone. I aim to inspire and use the opportunity I get to write about music, to talk about the music and artists who are worth listening to. And yes, at times I try to shed light on something that’s happening in the (music) world to get people to think about something, but that’s about it.

I try not to get into the gossip and private lives of musicians, but because musicians are using this themselves to sell music, it’s difficult not to. Just think of Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” and the wave of gossip it deliberately sparked about the state of her marriage with Jay Z. There’s even talk of Jay Z recording a response or the both of them doing that together.

Taylor Swift is also no stranger to blurring the lines between her personal life and her music. It’s public knowledge that she writes about her former boyfriends or even BFF’s. Her failed romances are just as much part of her image as her music. Her break up from Calvin Harris got the press initially painting her as the unlucky famous girl who has everything, but the love she wanted to marry. That picture got abruptly busted when she was ‘caught’ making out with Tom Hiddleston. What on earth happened with America’s sweetheart?

To stay on the topic of Taylor Swift and what happened to her. It’s been said by Kanye West that Taylor knew about his diss to her on his latest album. This was heavily disputed by Taylor. Why would she agree someone taking credit for all her hard work, right? Well, now, Kim Kardashian has added even more fuel to this fire and claimed there’s proof of Taylor’s consent to the diss. And Taylor’s lawyers have asked to destroy this proof, basically confirming its existence.

So, all of that was a well-played scene, huh?

In particular, Taylor Swift’s latest news stories are publically questioned by various press outlets. People think the photo leak of her kissing Tom Hiddleton was a deliberate attempt to have people ignore Kim’s statements. One that didn’t quite work.

The attempt just bares the surface of how many showbiz “beefs” and even ‘romances’ are put in place for the sole purpose to get us talking and boost sales of something. “Kimye” are avid users of this sales technique (think Amber Rose tweets… followed by a selfie with Kim).

It’s a technique that goes beyond revealing something personal, just around the time of the release of new music or a new endorsement deal. It now involves dragging other people down to draw attention to yourself. And in the deal, if there was one, between Kanye and Taylor, it shows how quick people are willing to stab you in the back, which is going around on both sides of that story.

But, apparently, we (the audience) are the most stupid of all. We all soak it up like it’s real, when nothing really seems to be real at all. Clearly, we are all pawns in the game.
