Yesterday, when researching what RedOne was currently up to, I ran into a source stating he was working on an album with Kaya Stewart. In between all the big names he usually works with, someone relatively new is bound to catch my eye, but to also read she’s the daughter of former Eurythmics, Dave Stewart literally got me Googling her right away.

And to my surprise, she’s really worth writing about. What can you expect from her? Well, think Lorde and combine that with a little bit of P!NK and even a bit of Hailee Steinfeld. Let’s call it rebellious pop.

In 2015 her EP was released with the single “In Love with a Boy” leading its way. Apparently, the song was put into rotation at 85 pop stations, but that escaped my attention. Together with some other tracks on her EP, it’s one of the tracks that does get your attention. It shows that being surrounded by music at such a professional level, all her life, has paid off as well as the mentoring she’s managed to get from Annie Lennox.

I honestly think if Annie were Kaya’s age now, there’s a good chance she would’ve been recording these type of songs herself. Eurythmics were known for making synth pop and this genre has transformed into today’s EDM, which exactly what Kaya brushes shoulders with. Her songs are honest, but have a bit of rebellion in the lyrics as well as musically, but moderated so it’s very much still mainstream pop.

That bit of edge also shows in her image. It could very well make her stand out from the crowd and help her move her career forward. Though it is pretty touch to stand out with all the outrageous things people do nowadays to draw attention to their music.

This makes me curious to see what she’s working on with RedOne. To be honest, it worries me, that teaming her up with a top producer as RedOne could take away that edge she’s showing right now. It would be nice if she manages to stay in the combination of Lorde and P!NK.
